What are Aliens & UFOs?
Alien primarily refers to:
- Alien (law), a person in a country who is not a national of that country
- Extraterrestrial life, life which does not originate from Earth
Technically an unidentified flying object can be anything when you get right down to it, but the term has become synonymous with extraterrestrial spacecraft. Exact descriptions of alien spacecraft vary with each telling, but witnesses often describe a lighted object capable of hovering silently and zigzagging in midair.
In other words, it’s up to so-called ufologists to convince the scientific world that UFOs are alien spacecraft, not for scientists to prove them wrong. Along the same lines, the scientific world doesn’t go on the defensive every time someone sees a ghost. Even in the presence of testable evidence, perfectly terrestrial claims demand rigorous testing and a high degree of certainty in the results.
NASA Scientist Once Claimed That “Aliens May Have Visited Earth”
When it comes to how far we can travel in the universe, we’re currently limited by our technology and understanding of physics. The farthest a human has ever been from Earth is the far side of the Moon back in the 1970s. And we don’t have faster-than-light travel or a fusion drive.
It is believed that species on other planets may be outside our galaxy have developed the technology which can time travel and move in the universe beyond any limitations. A scientist in NASA claimed that there’s a possibility that aliens might have visited earth. We cannot deny the fact that aliens might be hovering our planet, that could be the reason people around the world claims that they have seen UFOs.
Silvano Colombano, who works for the space agency’s Intelligent Systems Division — conceded that aliens might have already visited Earth. But in essence, the paper was a whip-smart new analysis of the Fermi Paradox. In other words, it confronted the question: Where are all the aliens?
Speaking in terms of galactic real estate, there are many possible locations aliens could be hiding out – the universe is gargantuan. In total, the Kepler Program has discovered 3,848 planets – including some candidates that exist in systems around 11.2 billion years old. Our home solar system is only about 4.5 billion years old — which means it’s possible that, in one of these super-ancient systems, there’s an Earth-like planet 6 billion years older than our home planet.
Places To Spot UFOs & Find Aliens
Anyone who has studied the images sent back by the space probes and rovers dotted throughout the solar system has no doubt wondered what it would be like to stand on another world. While tourism to other planets is still some distance off, Earth has its own fair share of alien landscapes. From an airstrip in Argentina to an allegedly alien-packed airport in Colorado, here are places you can actually visit to search for signs that we’re not alone in the universe.
1. Ovnipuerto Cachi, Argentina
A Swiss man built this airstrip for aliens because a UFO captain telepathically told him to.
WERNER JAISLI ARRIVED IN CACHI in 2008 with one purpose in mind: to create a landing space for the extraterrestrials with whom he was in telepathic communication. He obtained a field on the outskirts of town and set to work building a beacon that could guide the aliens to Earth.
Supposedly, interplanetary beings contacted Jaisli one night in November 2008. While illuminated by the light of a UFO’s beam, he received a telepathic message from the aircraft’s captain. “If you build it, we will go,” it purportedly said, sounding like a character from an otherworldly version of Field of Dreams.
So build it Jaisli did. As per the aliens’ instructions, he created a cluster of enormous, multi-pointed stars built from piles of rocks. The largest stars are white, but there are some smaller dark brown ones in the mix as well. The site boasts a few other landmarks, like a stack of scorched wood.
From the ground, it’s hard to appreciate how striking the patterns look from the air. But on the other hand, this vantage point lets you get a close look at just how large those rocks are and be amazed that one person built all of this while working at an elevation of more than 7,200 feet. It’s unclear whether the aliens appreciate the landmark, though, as they have yet to be sighted.
2. Hollowcombe Bottom – Devon, England
WHEN ALAN HICKS AND HIS family decided to take a stroll through Dartmoor National Park in April of 1977, they never could have anticipated the mysterious and tragic scene they would find.
As they made their way through Hollowcombe Bottom, a part of the park just outside Postbridge, they approached a herd of about 15 Dartmoor ponies that appeared to be sleeping. Except upon closer examination, the family soon realized they weren’t intruding on a massive pony slumber party. Every equine was dead.
Dartmoor Ponies are commonly found in the park—after all, they’re native to the area and even inspired the park’s logo. It’s even possible to stumble upon an occasional dead pony. However, it’s unusual to find an entire deceased herd.
No one knows for sure what happened to the animals. They were found with broken limbs and bloodied flesh. It’s said their bodies decomposed at an unnaturally fast rate. Theories range from parasites to lightning strikes to flash floods to satanic rituals.
Some people even blame aliens, saying the most plausible explanation is that a low-flying UFO swooped in and created a vortex that doomed the ponies. Extraterrestrial enthusiasts are convinced otherworldly beings are behind the curious deaths, though their motives remain unclear.
The site of a mysterious pony massacre is rich with extraterrestrial conspiracy theories.
3. 1800s Alien Gravesite – Aurora CemeteryAurora, Texas
This small town Texas cemetery is said to be the burial site of a UFO pilot who crashed in the 1800s.
HILE IT RECEIVES NO FANFARE today, the small town of Aurora, Texas was once the Roswell of its day after a well-publicized UFO crash in the area, and the pilot of the spacecraft is said to still be buried in the local cemetery.
According to a story run in the April 19, 1897, edition of the Dallas Morning News a “mystery airship,” as UFOs were known in those days, came sailing out of the sky, smashing through a windmill belonging to Judge J.S. Proctor, before finally crashing into the ground. The debris also destroyed the good judge’s flower garden. Unfortunately the pilot was also killed in the collision, but locals were able to drag what was described as a “petite” and “Martian” body from the wreckage. The body was supposedly buried under a tree branch in the Aurora cemetery, observing good Christian rites.
As the story goes, the locals placed a headstone on the spot with a crude etching of the alien’s ship on it, although no evidence of this (hoax or no) exists. However a more modern version of this apocryphal gravestone did eventually appear, placed under a tree in the spot the body was supposedly buried. UFO enthusiasts even began petitioning the cemetery to exhume the spot. So far the request has been denied.
Today, the alien’s headstone has been stolen but all traces of the Wild West alien spot are not lost. The Texas state historical marker that commemorates the cemetery still mentions the Martian burial among the other honored (and real) dead buried at the site.
4. Wycliffe Well – Davenport, Australia
WYCLIFFE WELL IN AUSTRALIA’S NORTHERN TERRITORY claims to be the UFO capital of Australia. And if you listen to the Sun Herald newspaper and Time Magazine, they are ranked in the top UFO spots of the world. Located in the middle of the desert, this tiny settlement is mostly visited as a stop-over between the towns of Alice Springs and Tennant Creek. There isn’t much in this part of Australia, so maybe it is just the right place for an alien or two to drop in now and then.
Small outback settlements like Wycliffe Well are known as roadhouses – a gas-food-lodging catch-all kind of place where there are almost no other accommodations for miles to get gas, food, or lodging. But that doesn’t mean visitors haven’t made a point of seeking out this particular roadhouse.
Visitors to Wycliffe Well go back to the mid-19th century when this little oasis (the spot is located on top of a high water table) was a stop for telegraph linemen. Fast-forward to World War II and Wycliffe Well continued its run as a way-station, this time for servicemen. It was with the World War II soldiers that the sightings started – so many sightings that the folks who ran the roadhouse started to keep a log of visitors streaking through the night sky, a practice still kept up today.
It may be the clear horizon, this area of Northern Territory being almost totally flat, or it may just be the beer (the roadhouse boasts one of the largest beer selections around), but this remote café/tavern/grocery/lodge/campground deep in the Australian outback is determined for you to see a UFO. And if you don’t, well then, they say you’re just unlucky.
5. Blue Mustang – Denver, Colorado
The Denver airport is guarded by a 32-foot-tall sculpture of a demonic horse.
THE “BLUE MUSTANG” SCULPTURE WAS created by the widely recognized artist, Luis Jiménez, whose previous works are displayed in numerous museums including the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C.
Standing 32 feet tall and molded from polychromed fiberglass, the mustang is painted a vibrant blue with red, glowing neon eyes. Meant to represent the “wild” spirit of the old American West, Jiménez installed the glowing eyes as homage to the neon workshop he worked in as a youth. These glowing eyes have earned the sculpture the nickname “Blucifer.”
The sculpture was commissioned in 1993, two years prior to the opening of the airport it stands outside of, but delays postponed its completion. Among these delays was the tragic death of the artist in 2006, when a 9,000 pound portion of the “Blue Mustang” sculpture broke loose and severed one of the artist’s arteries. His sons completed the remaining work.
Finally in 2008, the mustang was installed at the entrance to the airport, much to the dismay of the residents of Denver. Public opinion has vilified the artwork with calls from many quarters to have it removed to a less prominent location. City officials have postponed any attempt to remove the work until after 2013 so that residents and visitors can grow accustomed to the statue in hopes that public opinion will soften over time.
6. UFO Welcome Center – Bowman, South Carolina
This set of rickety spaceships are prepared to give alien travelers a place to relax and go to the bathroom.
IF ALIENS EVER VISIT OUR planet looking for a place to rest their head, they need look no further than South Carolina resident Jody Pendarvis’ homemade UFO Welcome Center, although he might already be sleeping inside it.
Built to resemble two silver UFOs stacked behind a scrap metal fence, the welcome center was cobbled together from scrap wood, metal, and random junk. The larger of the makeshift ships is on the bottom, built with all the amenities an interstellar traveler might need such as a toilet, shower, television, and air conditioning. The smaller of the ramshackle saucers simply rests atop the other with no connecting bolts. According to aspiring galactic ambassador Pendarvis, this will allow for it to be moved easier by alien technology.
The ships look a little rundown these days, but Pendarvis, who stays in the ship when the temperature goes above 55 degrees (F) because it has better AC than his trailer, still holds out hope for alien visitors. However human visitors are allowed to tour the UFO Welcome Center if they are able to reach Pendarvis and pay his ever increasing entry fee. Simply look for the words, “UFO Welcome Center” spray-painted on the fence. If aliens can find it, so can explorers.
7. UFO Watchtower, Colorado
Southern Colorado’s San Luis Valley has long been the scene of mysterious UFO sightings and the discoveries of cattle mutilations in which the animals have been dissected with surgeon-like skill. UFO watchers flock to this area, so in 2000 Judy Messoline established the UFO Watchtower near Hooper, where UFO buffs can camp and enjoy a 360-degree view of the area from her watchtower. UFOs aren’t guaranteed, but a wonderful night gazing at the star-filled sky is all but.
8. Vernal, Utah
Vernal in northern Utah is known as the gateway to Dinosaur National Monument and the breathtaking Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. But in paranormal circles it is also known for the strange sightings in its skies and its proximity to Skinwalker Ranch, a 500-acre ranch so strange that it was purchased by researchers for study. Tales of UFOs, Bigfoot-like creatures, strange orbs, creatures with glowing eyes and other paranormal activities have been reported by the ranch’s several owners going back decades. Skinwalker Ranch is now privately owned and not open to the public, but camping in the Vernal area at the very least ensures an incredible star show with some of the nation’s darkest skies.
9. The Kecksburg UFO Incident, Pennsylvania
On December 9, 1965, residents in six U.S. states and in Canada lit up the phone lines reporting a huge fireball that had soared overhead. In the woods near Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, residents reported hearing a loud crash and seeing blue smoke. The area was quickly cordoned off by the U.S. military, and some claim that an acorn-shaped craft with strange writing on its exterior was loaded onto a truck and hauled away.
Whatever happened on that December night is celebrated annually during July’s Kecksburg UFO Festival that benefits the local volunteer fire department. An alien costume parade, corn hole competition, bed races, UFO and paranormal researcher lectures and other cosmic fun take place. Be sure to check out the replica of the alleged craft that’s outside near the fire station.
10. Aztec UFO Crash Site, New Mexico
New Mexico is synonymous with UFOs thanks to Roswell, but there’s another (of many) New Mexico UFO mystery that allegedly took place in 1948, a year after Roswell. In the northwestern part of the state near the Colorado border, the story goes that a craft crashed in the high desert in Hart Canyon.
The military quickly descended upon the scene and carried the craft and the bodies of its crew away. The tale was published in several magazines in the following years, but many speculated that is was a hoax designed to sell oil-finding equipment as “alien technology.” But the story was revisited in the 1970s and some UFOlogists believe that there is merit to the original story.
True or not, someone anonymously placed a metal sign at the alleged crash site in the early 2000s, and a renowned mountain biking trail system was cut through the area. The Aztec Alien Run Mountain Bike Race that takes place annually in May sees riders land in Aztec from all over to enjoy this beautiful and challenging landscape.
8 Places That Looks Like Extraterrestrial:
We identified few places that are not known for the Aliens or UFOs activities but are known for their unique landscapes. These places look like as if they were not from the Earth. Let’s have a look at them:
1. Wadi Rum, Jordan
You’d be forgiven for thinking that this landscape was captured by a Mars rover, with its bright orange sands and towering cliffs. Wadi Rum (Arabic for ‘Sand Valley’) in Jordan looks so much like the surface of the Red Planet that it has been used as a shooting location for movies including The Martian and Rogue One.
2. Marble Caves, Patagonia
Situated on General Carrera Lake, Chile, the Marble Caves (Cuevas de Mármol) are the product of more than 6,000 years of wave erosion. During the spring, shallower waters reflect turquoise hues, while in the summer, water levels rise to produce a deeper cerulean blue. The caves are only accessible by boat.
3. Deep sea brine pools
A lake within an ocean is one way to describe these brine pools that dot the sea floor. The pools are formed by the accumulation of extremely concentrated brine, with a salt content three eight to times higher than that of the surrounding water. The brine is heavier than the surrounding solution and so sinks to the bottom, forming a lake complete with shoreline and waves. Hardy extremophile bacteria live along the shore, feeding on methane and providing a small ecosystem with energy kilometres from sunlight.
4. White Sands National Monument, USA
Found in New Mexico, United States, is the White Sands National Monument, part of the largest field of gypsum crystals in the world. The calcium-based gypsum is responsible for the bright white colouration of the dunes. Unlike quartz-based sand, gypsum sand can be walked on safely with bare feet as it does not pass on the Sun’s heat as readily.
5. Darvaza crater, Turkmenistan
Aptly nicknamed ‘the door to hell’, this fiery pit in Turkmenistan is the result of a failed Soviet mining expedition. Just as the Soviet engineers realised that the prospective oil field site was in fact a gas pocket, the ground beneath gave way, collapsing into a crater. Fearing the release of toxic gas, the engineers set the escaping fumes alight. They expected the gas to burn off after a few weeks, but it is still going strong more than 45 years later.
6. The Cave of Crystals, Mexico
Buried deep below the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, is the Cave of Crystals, which contain some of the largest naturally occurring crystal formations ever found. Near 100% humidity and temperatures of up to 58 degrees Celsius make the caves a hostile place. Even with proper protective gear, a person can only tolerate around 10 minutes of exposure at a time, which is one reason the caves have barely been explored.
7. Chocolate Hills, Philippines
Resembling giant alien ant hills, the Chocolate Hills in the Bohol province of the Philippines are named for their appearance during the dry season, when the green grass that covers them turns brown. Made out of limestone derived from coral and other fossils, the hills were formed by water erosion as the land was lifted by tectonic movements. Many of the hills have hidden caves and springs within.
8. Red Beach, China
The vivid crimson wetlands of Panjing, China, are better known as the Red Beach. The vibrant colouration comes from a special type of seaweed called Suaeda, which can withstand highly alkaline conditions that would kill other species. The seaweed mimics deciduous trees, gaining their red colour in the autumn to produce an alien landscape that you could be easily tricked into thinking is from another world.
